Psychological Questionnaires

The questionnaires we develop are freely available for use. You can download .pdf versions and use the excel auto-scorer to score them. They have all been validated and published in academic journals. The questionnaires are intended to be used and interpreted by trained health professionals in the context of a comprehensive assessment.

Perth Alexithymia Questionnaire (PAQ)

The PAQ (Preece, Becerra, Robinson, Dandy, & Allan, 2018) is a 24-item self-report measure of alexithymia. Alexithymia is a trait involving:

  • Difficulty identifying one’s own feelings
  • Difficulty describing feelings
  • An externally orientated thinking style (EOT) whereby one tends to not focus their attention on their emotions.

The PAQ is designed to assess alexithymia across negative and positive emotions.

Perth Emotion Regulation Competency Inventory (PERCI)

The PERCI (Preece, Becerra, Robinson, Dandy, & Allan, 2018) is a 32-item self-report measure of emotion regulation ability. The PERCI assesses people’s ability to control and tolerate their negative and positive emotions.

Perth Emotional Reactivity Scale (PERS)

The Perth Emotional Reactivity Scale (PERS; Becerra, Preece, Campitelli, & Scott-Pillow, 2017) is a 30-item self report questionnaire designed to measure trait levels of emotional reactivity. That is, measure one’s typical:

  • Ease of activation of emotions.
  • Intensity of emotions.
  • Duration of emotions

These aspects of emotion are assessed for negative and positive emotions.

There is also an 18-item short form, called the PERS-S.

Emotion Beliefs Questionnaire (EBQ)

The Emotion Beliefs Questionnaire (EBQ; Becerra, Preece, & Gross, 2020) is a 16-item self-report measure of beliefs about emotions. Based on Ford and Gross’s (2019) theoretical framework, the EBQ assesses two main categories of beliefs about emotions:

  • Beliefs about the controllability of emotions.
  • Beliefs about the usefulness of emotions.

These beliefs are assessed for negative emotions and positive emotions.
